W6MXV Solid State Magnetic P7 Monitor for SSTV
Front View
Inside View
The magnetic deflection P7 tubes were many times brighter than the electrostatic deflection P7 tubes. The P7 phosphur had two traces, one a brilliant Blue that decayed immediately, and a much dimmer yellow trace that would persist for about 8 seconds. The face of the CRT was covered with a yellow or orange piece of plastic so that the blue trace was cut back and the yellow trace with the SSTV image was able to be seen in a darkened room.
This original monitor was demonstrated by W6MXV at the 1999 Dayton Hamvention, still working fine after 30 years.
