Wind Energy

Wind Energy is divded into four types of wind turbines. The most common type is called a HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) driven by a large propeller.

Another type of HAWT Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine does not have an external propeller. This type is not seen very often.

A VAWT is a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine with a large vertical propeller is most often called a Darrieus type. This unit originated from a Department of Energy experiment and Sandia Labs.

A VAWT of another form without the large Darrieus propellors is generally built as a small vertical axis assembly with several blades that are stacked on top of each other, and results in a neat vertical assembly that looks like a futuristic 'phone booth.
