Thinking Outside the Box

This is one of my favorite expressisons, meaning that we should be more inventive and original in our thoughts. A person who consistently thinks outside the box may be known as: An inventor, A genius, A leader, or a Saint.

Most people like the security of life as it has always been. Inferior people dislike anyone that thinks outside of their accepted rules and mandates. Religous groups are infamous for trying keep all their followers thinking inside the box. Politicians are another group that dislike people that think outside the box. It complicates life for these narrow minded individuals. They label a person who thinks outside the box: A Radical, A Heretic, or just plain wierd.

We all have heard of many people who have been historically considered a person who thinks outside the box, such as Noah, Moses, Jesus Christ, St. Paul (the 14th Apostle), Copernicus, Da Vinchi, Michaelangelo, Luther (originally anyway), Darwin, Tesla, Einstein, and Mother Teresa. But one thing is known about all of these, they did not live a comfortable life. Generally, they were only really respected after they died. Jesus was Crucified, St. Paul was Beheaded, Copernicus and Luther were excommunicated, Tesla was fired by Edison, and Einstein as a youth was thought to be stupid.

Global warming is going to take a lot of thinking and acting outside the box. Our local power company writes columns about why global warming does not exist. They are fighting a mandate to reduce their harmful emissions from their coal fired electrical power generators. There are many companies who will try to profit from this possible disasterous situation, and make sure only items that result in greater profits for them are promulgated. A suggested lower cost or reused item will not be met with joy.

My own approach is that this global warming situation is a reality and we may not have much time to get busy with fresh ideas on how we can all work together to solve this problem. I find that most individuals are more easily motivated to action by pointing out how much money it will save right now, than by long range glorious ideas that will cost them Mucho $.... It seems painfully obvious to me that we should keep anything old in use, since something new always results in large amounts of CO2 emissions during the manufacturing and transportation processes. Something already in use has already paid the CO2 price, so keep it going. Another tactic is to implement least cost technology improvements on an existing item rather than just scrapping it. The idea of recycled products is nice, unfortunately, recycled products may have slight effect on landfills, but most if not all will have a completely insignificant effect on global warming. It's the biggies in size or weight or cost that are going to make a significant difference in the global warming problem.

After listening to ****** talk on Global warming, I got to thinking that my experience with a ham radio satellite, AO-40, might be appropriate to a temporary but immediate solution to global warming, melting icebergs, etc. (more about this later.

The difference between a Genius and a Klutz is very simple. The genius keeps track of his mistakes. The glue used in Post Its was supposed to stick. And even Out of the Box Thinkers make major boo-boos. Tesla was very afraid that someone would steal his ideas; so he would not document his best ideas, and they are now lost to posterity.
